| 2004: THE YEAR IN ROCK A lot has been happening this year. It's time to chronicle: First, Sean Mou-Keefe has birthed a new era of goth-infused rock, and with it a new title for his own group, Murder of Crows. The band also features his betrothed Sheau-wha Mou-Keefe, and Attiss Ngo. Meanwhile, Attiss has launched his own band, Triple Cobra -- a true San Francisco original, and probably the best glam-rock unit, in the world at present. If you thought glam was dead, you'll be pleasantly disappointed. Eve joined up with Ken Kurita-Ditz to form a new wave/rock group called Foreign Telegram. The duo have proven a pop-songwriting powerhouse, and with the talents of Takuya Kawamura, Ryoichi Harada, Elena Charbila, and Ben Rosenberg, have recorded not 1, but 2 albums of material to be released in 2005. As for SISTERSOUND, Eve continues in the tradition of left-field songwriting, and is currently finishing up 4 new songs with a radical new sound for SS. Also, plans are in the works to release an official SISTERSOUND cd during spring of 2005, called 'Dragging The Timepiece Heart'. SS PROPAGANDA LEAFLETS REVEALED. view a comp of SS flyers here LAST NIGHT A DJ SAVED MY LIFE... ...but who needs a DJ, when the SISTERSOUND audio player automatically generates an original mix, everytime. Enjoy the twists and turns, and just listen. REFLECTIONS ON FATE, FAME, AND UNREQUITED GREATNESS "The last times I ever saw Sean play, he seemed more like a rock star than ever before. He was thriving on obscurity. If fate was taunting him, he was sticking a middle finger right back." -- Jon Reed A feature article on Sean Mou-Keefe, SISTERSOUND's multi-talented drummer since 2002, by John Reed. The tribute focuses on Sean, his prior band Dieselmeat, and the tangent life of a struggling rock journalist. It is as true a portrait of the 90's rock underbelly as you may ever see. Read it here. ROCKSHOW CIRCUS HOOTENANNY AND DANCE PARTY. 11/24 We arrived at UN Plaza to play a generator show and were greeted by 3 stiltwalkers handing out Matt Gonzalez flyers. SISTERSOUND got a solid 5 songs out, playing to a throng of street punks, various urban youth, some of SF's homeless citizens, and more indescript audience members, all politically charged to get Matt Gonzalez into office as the San Francisco mayor. I'm always surprised by who comes up afterwards to thank or encourage us. Proof that there are open-minded people from all walks of life. Thanks to Rachel and Raini for getting us involved in this event, and to all the people who introduced yourselves to us, afterwards. It was a pleasure. More info on the schedule page. The vote for SF's mayor is December 9. 5 YEARS. GIRLS GONE WILD. The Oct 16th show with Pussy Machine at the Eagle took place without
incident of injury or police intervention. We'll try to provide a video
clip of the action. Check back in a few days. COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN. -- e v e |
| Increasingly omnipresent in the music media, is the slang, Avant-Rock -- a deceptive term, often criticized for its seemingly contradictory definition. In an era where rock music has shown itself to be cookie-cut and stale, the recipe of major labels, SISTERSOUND proves that avant-garde ideals and rock 'n' roll power can co-exist in a fresh and disturbingly easy-to-swallow pill. SISTERSOUND creates music which is dramatic and always cerebral. With
an almost bipolar strategy, the band issues a mix of sonorous melodies,
white noise attacks, angular syncopated rhythms, circular riffs, and methodic
progessions racked with emotional exhaustion. Lyrics confessing alienation,
loneliness, and self-destruction are met with themes of revenge and failure,
while others revel in dreamy imagery from the cusp of sleep. No simple
love song here. |

| Download the SISTERSOUND one-sheet, Review by Romy Hoffman, 2004: "We've gone back to Rock and Roll. Popular music has once again
recognised the simplicity, fashion and velocity of the once was devil,
only this time it's in over abundance and over-over hyped. Performed by
a full fledged fleeting army of flippant youngsters with carefully tailored
hair do's,this year's in thing will next year probably be gone. The bandwagon
will crash and the new baby of genius marketing will begin its growth
into stardom. From Aku Aku SF (www.akuaku.org) Mar 1, 2004 Oct 18, 2003 Mieko was there because she promotes a few bands in Japan and the San Francisco area, and the roommate of someone in one of her bands was performing that night. The band is named Sistersound, a three-member "Avant-Rock" group playing excellent Sonic Youth inspired pieces. I'm really glad I got to see them and look forward to the next time. I took two photos with Mie's cell phone, but they didn't come out so well in the low light." -- Dav Excerpts from www.atakra.com Oct 17, 2003 Feb 21, 2003 |
